FaizaAge: 40
Language: Indonesian
Years of experience: +13 years“I always try to do my best at teaching, motivating, and maintaining good vibes in every class.”
Listen & Learn: Hi, Faiza! What languages do you teach? Why did you choose a career in teaching?
Faiza: I teach Indonesian and English. When I lived in Bali, Indonesia, I taught English to Indonesian students and Indonesian to foreign learners. Here, in the UK, so far I have only taught Indonesian to foreign learners.
I chose a career in teaching because I find it immensely fulfilling and enjoyable. No two days are ever the same, and it is always a pleasure being part of the students’ journey in learning a new language.
Listen & Learn: That’s great to hear. Tell us about your teaching qualifications and history.
Faiza: I am a native Indonesian speaker with a BA in English Language and Literature and a near-native level of English proficiency. I have over 4 years of teaching experience.
Furthermore, I have over 13 years of experience providing language services in English and Indonesian. This includes translation, copywriting, content writing, interpretation, etc. Being a total language nerd has proven to come in handy when teaching!
Listen & Learn: Indeed! And, what attracted you to teach with Listen & Learn?
Faiza: There were many things that attracted me to teach with Listen & Learn. First of all, you have excellent online reviews and testimonials from students and teachers, which is undoubtedly a great first impression! I was also impressed with your extensive network in the UK, Europe, and beyond.

Listen & Learn: Thanks for that feedback! Now, talking about your work as a teacher: What do you look for in a student?
Faiza: There is nothing in particular that I look for in a student. However, if I had to choose something, I do appreciate curiosity and enthusiasm.
Listen & Learn: What should students expect from you as their teacher?
Faiza: I always try to do my best at teaching, motivating, and maintaining good vibes in every class. I also find it essential that my methods are effective and that my students enjoy the lessons. Therefore, I continuously review my classes and adjust my teaching methods when necessary. I also firmly believe that creating a friendly and positive environment starts with myself.

Listen & Learn: Thank you. Last, would you tell us a fun fact about the language you teach or a favorite expression you ask your students to learn?
Faiza: Well, this is a fun fact. In Indonesian, there are words that contain reduplication, which is a repeated and hyphenated word (or part of the word). Some of these words are the names of animals, for example, kura-kura (turtle), kupu-kupu (butterfly), kunang-kunang (firefly), lumba-lumba (dolphin), laba-laba (spider), cumi-cumi (squid), and biri-biri (sheep).
