Selection Process

Step One

Complete and submit your application form. Our moderators will review your submission and, if approved your profile will appear on the Travel Scholarship Candidates page within 24 hours. You can now begin sharing the link to this page and asking people to vote for you.

Remember, the more votes you receive, the better your chances of being shortlisted as a top-3 finalist.

Upon visiting your profile and clicking to cast their vote, your supporters will be offered the chance to answer 3 Spanish or Portuguese language questions (taken from our free Language Level Tests). Voters who answer all 3 questions correctly will have their vote count as double! So, if you want to increase your vote count as quickly as possible, encourage your supporters to complete this step!

Step Two:

At the end of the voting period, the 3 entrants with the most votes will be announced as our finalists.

Next, a panel of 2 Spanish and 2 Portuguese experts will review each finalist’s profile, using their travel itinerary and language ability to judge a winner. In the event of a tie, the panelists will make the final decision based on the perceived level of difficulty of each applicant’s chosen tongue-twister and how well he/she performed it.

The scholarship has been rescheduled for 2022 due to the COVID-19 outbreak. New deadline to be announced.

10 hours of online language lessons (Spanish or Portuguese) with a qualified, native-speaking Listen & Learn tutor. Lessons must be taken before the winner’s planned trip.
$3,000 (USD) to help fund all or part of the winner’s trip to Latin America.

Each runner-up will receive 10 hours of online language lessons (Spanish or Portuguese) with a qualified, native-speaking tutor. These classes are valid for up to 3 months after the winner is announced.

Upon completing these language lessons, all finalists will be contacted for feedback about their experience (via a short video).
