French Lessons in Edinburgh

Did you know that French is the only language (besides English) that’s officially spoken on every continent? Much of West Africa, like Morocco, is French-speaking, as are parts of Canada in North America, French Guiana in South America and Vanuatu in Oceania. And French is common in many countries even where it is not an official language as well. The UK is no exception, with thousands of French speakers living in its capital cities, like Edinburgh.

In fact, more than 5,000 people residing in the city speak French. Start learning the language with us at Listen & Learn and soon you’ll be fluent enough to communicate with other learners and native speakers who also live in Edinburgh. One of the best ways to find them is to join the weekly meetings organised by groups like Edinbourg Francais, where you can make new friends who love the French language as much as you!

French is the international language of cooking, film, fashion, theatre, the visual arts and dance, but it’s also a language that inspires fear in learners because of its initially tricky pronunciation. For example, you may have realised that words like beaucop do not pronounce the final p, or that the x in roux is silent. How will you know when or how to avoid pronouncing these silent letters? Don’t worry, French rules for pronunciation are much more consistent than in English. So, if you can master English, you can easily get the hang of the most common pronunciation rules for French with a little practise and guidance from us.

Would you like to know more about this fascinating language and become proficient? Then contact us at Listen & Learn and we will prepare a course that adapts to your needs and preferences. Would you like to learn through classic French movies like Amélie? Check. Are you interested in acquiring the language by using songs? Just reach out and we will implement the methods that best resonate with you, so learning is always productive and engaging.
