Which Song Will Inspire You to Learn a New Language? (Part II)
French
You know more songs in French than you think. Go on, think about it. That’s right; La Vie en Rose, Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien, No Me Quitte Pas etc. Even that one about Lady Marmalade had a bit in French, didn’t it?’ For French courses Edinburgh has a good vibe and who wouldn’t want to go up to the castle and sing “Voulez vous coucher avec moi ce soir” with the city at their feet?
Italian
I inadvertently lied earlier. Among my 3,042 songs (3,043 now, as I just downloaded Lady Marmalade to check the lyrics) there are some Italian ones too. It is close enough to Spanish that I can make out some of the words if I try really hard and squeeze my eyes together as I listen. I particularly like Il Mondo, Volare and O Sole Mio. If you want Italian lessons Dublin seems like a good place to sing your heart out. You could even stand on a bridge over the Liffey and pretend to be in Venice.
