Learn Spanish and Something Else Too (part I)
I might have come to South America with the idea that I wanted to travel a bit and learn Spanish but I learned a few extras things into the bargain as well. Such as these.
How to Hand Wash My Clothes
Having grown up with a washing machine in the house I had never had any need to hand wash my clothes ever. Then when I rented a flat here while I was starting to learn Spanish I realised with a jolt that there was not only a lack of washing machine in the place but also a distinct lack of laundrettes nearby as well. Out on the balcony there was a big concrete sink type thing which I guessed was to wash my clothes in. I tentatively dipped my dirty clothes in it and do you know what? I absolutely loved it. Since I was leading a routine free life I could get up at 8 in the morning. Ok, make that 10. I would then go out to the balcony and enjoy the morning sun while washing stuff and listening to the radio. It might sound a bit boring but I passed months doing this and kind of miss it now.
How to Make Lemonade
Who knew that this was so easy? I certainly didn’t. I drunk a lovely cold jar of lemonade with my lunch just about every day and then decided to find out how to make the stuff. I won’t give away my secret recipe and all I can say is that it involves lemons, water and sugar. Oops.
