Learn Spanish and Enjoy Some Serendipity (part I)
One thing I discovered after I began to learn Spanish was that asking the wrong question often led to the right answer.
Call it serendipity. Call it beginner’s luck or call it whatever you will. There is no doubt in my mind that when you learn a new language in a foreign country you are likely to come across some exciting discoveries purely by chance. You want some proof?
Tarija or Tupiza
The place where I now live is somewhere I should never have even been to. After travelling to learn Spanish in Ecuador with a group I was on my own in La Paz, Bolivia and had to travel to Santiago in Chile for my onwards flight. In my last night in La Paz for some strange reason I wandered into a club and some people asked me where I was going next. I meant to say Tupiza, as that is where I was planning to go to. However, due to the late hour and the fact that the names are quite similar I said Tarija. It turned out that the whole group were from there and gave me some much earache about what a great place it is that I ended up going there instead; a decision I have never regretted.
