How to Learn Spanish with a Smile on Your Face (Part I)
I have never been much of a joke teller, to be honest. I tend to either forget the punch line or get all muddled and end up mix two jokes together into one at the crucial time. However, I discovered pretty quickly that learning a few jokes is a great way to learn Spanish with a smile on your face if you can work out how to do it.
Step 1 – Know the Words
I was taken by surprise the first time someone asked me to tell them a joke in Spanish. It wasn’t long after my initial Spanish lessons had finished and I didn’t have enough vocabulary to do this properly at all. Needless to say I ploughed on regardless and tried to tell a really complicated joke which took me about 10 minutes and lots of lengthy pauses to deliver. At the end I was red faced and completely out of breath. As I looked around my audience to gauge their reactions I just saw a sea of blank faces staring back at me. It’s hard work this comedy business.
