Could You Work Abroad and Speak the Language? (Part II)
The Attitude
I have never had the pleasure of working in Germany but a friend who lived there for a while said that it is a fantastic country to live in. However, he could never get to grips with the German attitude to work. He said that they are always very direct and serious in the office, making it difficult to relax and make friends at work. I realise that this is a bit of a generalisation but I just did some research on the internet and it seems as though other people think this way as well. Before taking German lessons Birmingham residents planning to work over there should consider how they would deal with this sort of situation.
The Culture
I don’t know anyone who has worked in China but I just searched online for details of Chinese work attitudes. It appears that hard work, respect and strong personal relationships are all important for building a good career in this country. If I am being honest I would like to work in China in the future, as long as they promise to give me a lunch break. Anyway, along with their Chinese lessons Aberdeen students with plans to work there should be sure to study the culture as well.
