Knowing the Right Words Can Save Your Life (Part II)
Snakes in Spanish
I spent a while doing some voluntary work in Ecuador and one of the local guides spent an hour explaining to us about the different types of local snakes which we would have to look out for if we didn’t want to lose a limb. None of us understood a word of what he was talking about and which ones are deadly and which ones are merely a bit of a pain when you stand on them. I think he was making half of the stuff up anyway but it would have been nice to be sure. If you want to learn Spanish Birmingham is pretty much serpent free but it is a good place to learn the right words to be safe in the jungle.
Stay Safe in France
I have been to France a few times and felt really safe there but a friend said that he once got stopped by a local frantically trying to tell him something. He thinks that he was trying to warn him that he was wandering into a dodgy area but he could also have been telling him that the planet Nibiru was about to hit the Earth at last. It is a strange situation to not understand what people around you are saying or warning you about. I am not sure if the Planet Nibiru has a different name in French but if you are taking French lesson Edinburgh teachers should be able to put you right on this matter for the future.
