Exciting Ways to Enjoy Your New Language Even More (Part I)
It is a great feeling to learn new words and phrases in a new language. I immersed myself in the Spanish language pretty quickly by coming to South America but I was wondering recently how you could best do this without leaving the UK.
The Chinese New Year in London
If you live in London and want to study a foreign language then you have already got a head start over people who live in other parts of the UK, thanks to the hugely cosmopolitan nature of the capital. If we look at the example of someone who is taking Chinese lessons London offers the chance of celebrating a fantastic Chinese New Year. 2013 is, apparently, the Year of the Snake and there are lots of events you could enjoy while you mix with other Chinese speakers.
Eat Spanish Food in Birmingham
I had one of the strangest meals of my life in Brum a few years back. A couple of us travelled down on business and decided to wander into the city’s Chinatown district. We couldn’t work out where to eat and ending up picking up a place where we had to order from an unintelligible menu and then spill our food all over the place using chopsticks as there were no forks on the table. Despite this bad experience I can still recommend it is a friendly and interesting city. If you start to learn Spanish Birmingham is also a great place to eat, as it has a few Spanish restaurants. We should have gone for tapas that day, I know.
