French Words You Already Know

How many French words do you know? You might be surprised to find that you know a lot more than you think. What about à la carte, à propos, apéritif and attaché. And we’re still only at the letter A. When they start their French lessons Liverpool residents are already a good part of the way towards having a decent vocabulary.

Your Italian Accent

Getting the accent right is one of the trickiest things about learning a second language as you will have no idea how yours will sound until you start speaking. I only went to Rome for a weekend once but the lovely melodic qualities of the Italian language meant that I felt as though I was really getting into the swing of it when trying to put on a local accent. I was particularly pleased with my pronunciation of anadata e ritorno when buying an underground ticket. Once they start their Italian courses Brighton students can soon be practising their accents and feeling more Mediterranean with each lesson.
