I Wear It Well (Part I)
I mentioned some of my South American clothes disasters earlier on but so far I have failed to mention some of my brilliant successes. Yes, there were some of them while I was going to Spanish classes here. Apart from the normal clothes you could buy anywhere I also bought some local products which turned out to be inspired purchases in most cases.
A Poncho
Having grown up with spaghetti westerns I finally lived out part of my dream when I bought a poncho in the market in Otavalo in Ecuador. It looks great on me and the price was very reasonable for such a quality product which the seller assured me was just right for a handsome devil like me. In fact, there is only one problem and that is the lack of social occasions in which one can wear one’s poncho these days. I have tried slipping it on for parties, Spanish classes and weddings but it just doesn’t feel right. I am now seriously considering the idea of joining a local folk music group to give it an airing now and then.
