Someone Who Speaks a Second Language

One of the weird benefits I found when I began to take Spanish lessons is that I started to think more about the English tongue as well. I think that this happens to everyone who learns a second language and it means that if you get the help of someone who is bilingual you will probably find that it is easier to communicate with them. A person who speaks English as their second language is probably best but I don’t think this is essential.

Someone Who Uses the Right Words

Have a think about a few people you know who live in your home town. I am guessing that there are some who would be virtually impossible for foreigners to understand. My mum, for example, makes up words and garbles her sentences so much that I reckon that a lot of people probably wouldn’t even know what language she was speaking at times. The same thing happens all across the world, and if you want to learn Spanish well then you should try to stick to locals who use the right words. Of course, learning slang words is all well and good, but we need to go back to the first point and find someone who can give you a synonym for the word if you don’t know it. I don’t like to stereotype people but you will probably find that big city dwellers, students and well travelled Spanish speakers will be easier to communicate with than older people or those who live in small communities and don’t have much contact with foreigners.
